📣 Co-Parenting Tip: Words and Emotions Matter! 💬❤️

Co-parenting is tough—it requires patience, communication, and mutual respect. But remember, how you speak to the other parent doesn’t just affect them—it trickles down to your child!! 👀💔

Children absorb the emotions and words exchanged between parents, and negativity can leave lasting impacts well into adulthood… I

💡 Here are some ways to communicate positively:

• Stick to the facts and avoid unnecessary criticism. Think twice before sending the text 😒😅

• Speak to the other parent the way you’d want your child to be spoken to. If you wouldn’t say it to a stranger, DONT say it to the other parent. Remember people will read your texts in open court. 👀

• Keep conversations calm, kind, and focused on solutions.

Children thrive when their parents set an example of respect and kindness, even in challenging circumstances. Let your words and actions reflect the love and care you want your child to grow up with. 💕

If that fails, keep calm and screenshot. Do not hit send. Do not reply. 🙌 I have a 2-2 rule: 2 hours to react to a message made to instigate rage or hurt, 2 hours to read your own response. Self control is KEY 🔑

Going through divorce, separation, or custody battle can be an incredibly traumatic experience. It is important to remember that you have to put yourself first and give yourself grace. ❤️ No divorce is perfect. No one parent is perfect. Give yourself grace.
Remember to take a deep breath and focus on having your own time with your friends, your colleagues, or even doing something for yourself. Sometimes people will put everyone (children, grandparents, friends, other peoples opinions) first and burn themselves out. Just remember, we are all human and if you are burnt out, you can’t participate in life as you would if you were well. Your children need you to be the best version of YOU. Sometimes that means you have to go see a counselor. Or take medication. Or take a day off and go walk in the park. Or block the toxic person out of your life….

As an attorney I always ask my clients how they’re feeling and how they’re doing. Make sure you communicate with your lawyer honestly. We have an abundance of resources, including local counselors.❤️

I hope everyone remained safe during this time. I am working to return as soon as possible, though many roads are congested or closed, and cell service is intermittent. We will keep you updated on our progress. My thoughts are with my family, friends, and clients. Our home sustained some damage, and my parents’ home was significantly impacted. We aim to resume operations within the next few days.🙏🏼❤️

How to prepare for a hurricane, from a lawyer 🙂 Friendly reminders, not legal advice 🚫

1. TAKE PHOTOS of the shutters you put on, and all your items inside the house! This can save you a LOT of grief later! 📸
2. DOWNLOAD YOUR POLICY AND READ IT! A lot of times the wind 🌬️ versus flood 💦 insurance policy verbiage will be different.
3. REPORT A CLAIM ASAP!‼️
4. Take photos and videos of the damage. If you are inside your home and the water is coming from the ceiling, take a video and photo. 📸🎥 Why? Because insurances might argue how the damage happened.
5. Do NOT throw anything away! Put it into your garage and save it for the adjusters. (Be the hoarder please) 🙈
6. DO NOT SIGN UP WITH ANY RANDOM REPAIR COMPANY THAT IS NOT LOCAL! The people who come knocking after a storm and don’t have a 941 # # # can be a scam! Sometimes they even buy local numbers to make it seem like they are local. Be very careful! 🙅🏼‍♀️ Ask them basic questions only locals would know! Ask for their address, and it should not be a PO Box. Drive by their shop! 🚗🛵
7. Do not sign anything before reading it & doing your own due diligence! Read online reviews. Ask your neighbors. Google/Facebook recommendations. Search on the court website to see if that company was sued before. Search the deed records to see if there are many “commencement” filings for that company locally (meaning they did a lot of local work because in FL they have to file that for their jobs). 📄
8. Research local public adjusters or lawyers!
9. Apply for FEMA or other local aid.
10. Pray, and help the local community.

Be safe y’all 🙏🏼❤️
