USCIS issued a new memorandum in December 2025 that is already affecting immigration cases.

While adjustment of status and naturalization applications can still be filed, applicants connected to certain countries may experience longer processing times and additional security review.

If your case seems delayed, this guidance may explain why.

🇺🇸 USCIS Update: Good Moral Character in Citizenship Applications 🇺🇸

USCIS will now place greater emphasis on positive contributions when evaluating the “good moral character” requirement for naturalization. This means your strengths and community ties matter more than ever.

Positive factors that can help your case:

• Community involvement and contributions
• Family caregiving and strong U.S. ties
• Educational achievements
• Stable, lawful employment history
• Length of lawful residence in the U.S.
• Compliance with taxes and financial responsibility

Practical Implications for Applicants:

• More comprehensive reviews – officers may look deeper into finances, community reputation, even social media.
• Increased documentation – expect to provide evidence of volunteer work, education, family and community contributions.
• Longer processing times – a more holistic review could slow down decisions.
• Greater risk of denial – officers now have more discretion to weigh negative conduct that might have been overlooked before.

Bottom line: Show USCIS the whole picture — not only that you’ve stayed out of trouble, but that you’re an engaged, responsible, and contributing member of your community.

On June 26, the U.S. House passed H.R. 875, a bill that would make DUI convictions a direct basis for inadmissibility and deportation, even for lawful permanent residents. The bill now heads to the Senate, where it will require 60 votes to pass—it cannot be included in budget reconciliation.

This bill could have serious consequences for noncitizens with DUI records—even older or misdemeanor cases.

We’re closely tracking developments. If you or someone you know may be impacted by this bill, now is the time to consult with an immigration attorney.

USCIS has released a new version of Form I-693 (used for immigration medical exams). Starting July 3, 2025, only the new edition (dated 01/20/25) will be accepted.

✅ You can still use the older version (dated 03/09/23) if the civil surgeon signs it by July 2, 2025.

🩺 No more COVID-19 vaccine requirement — doctors will now mark that section as “N/A” or cross it out.

If you're planning to apply for a green card, make sure you're using the correct form!

USCIS Terminates Form I-944 and the "Public Charge Rule."

USCIS immediately stopped applying the Public Charge Final Rule to all pending applications and petitions that would have been subject to the rule. On or after March 9, 2021, applicants and petitioners should not provide information required solely by the Public Charge Final Rule.

That means that applicants for adjustment of status should not provide the Form I-944.

If you received a Request for Evidence (RFE) or Notice of Intent to Deny (NOID) requesting information that is solely required by the Public Charge Final Rule, including but not limited to Form I-944, and your response is due on or after March 9, 2021, you need not provide the information solely required by the Public Charge Final Rule. You do, however, need to respond to the aspects of the RFE or NOID that otherwise pertain to the eligibility for the immigration benefit sought.
