During a recent deposition of my client, the defense attorney attempted to diminish my client's case, but we were able to effectively demonstrate that my client was not at fault for the incident where a motor vehicle struck and injured my client while crossing the street.

The recent $49 million verdict against Alex Jones is a clear example of why caps on damages don't work. The the jury verdict of $4.1 million in compensatory damages and $42.5 million in punitive damages was meant to compensate the plaintiffs for the damages caused by Jones defaming them, as well as to penalize him for accusing the plaintiffs/parents of somehow faking the death of their son killed at the schools shooting in Sandy Hook. But Jones won't ever have to pay the full amount because Texas law limits how much defendants have to pay in punitive damages to twice the compensatory damages plus up to $750,000. Thus, the jury's punitive damages award to the plaintiffs is essentially meaningless.
