We finished the 2 weeks of work back over in Chambers County, spanking Eastern baccharis (Baccharis halimifolia) to spur grasses on. This herbicide application will allow for sunlight to shine through the skeleton of the plant, allowing for plants with higher ecological value to emerge. Additionally, these skeletons of the shrubs allow birds to perch, depositing scarified seeds onto the ground below. All that said, control of ecosystems is important in building and protecting an entire community.

Feel free to share this message! It is an important one!!

A solid week of herbicide (brush control) accomplished goals for two landowners, one job on public and and the other on private land. Working conditions were extreme! Cut stump, hack and squirter & basal applications are pretty much the order of the day!

Seven days in the field last week, one evening dropped over an inch of rain .... but we adapted and got our work done. This project is one of the most rewarding areas of work we do. Ridding the site of nuisance, invasive and exotic species makes space for the good plants!

The application deadline for Texas Brigades summer camps is coming up on March 15th!

Anyone ages 13-17 can attend summer camp as a cadet and learn all about conservation, wildlife habitat, land management, etc. all while gaining and strengthening leadership, communication, and team-building skills. At Resource and Land Management, we are huge advocates of this great organization and would highly recommend attending a Texas Brigades camp to anyone that we know! There are also opportunities for adults to attend the camps as Adult Leaders!

Well, two weeks ago we were up to our butts in alligators! Now --- we've moved to an upland site, and those alligators have morphed into some really thick brush!

Draining the swamp comes in many forms. That swamp this week comes in the form of Yaupon. We are covered up in it this week. Stay tuned through the week. The place we are on has some amazing plant communities.

Resource and Land Management, Inc. had the opportunity to plant native trees and shrubs for Galveston Bay Foundation earlier this week. All species planted were cross-referenced with the USDA Plants Database to ensure that they are native to the county. We really appreciate this opportunity and can not wait to see it all once the plants have had time to grow!

Off to a good start! Our days are early, but this is the best time to be in the field! We are trying to beat the rain!

Good morning from the coastal marshes of Southeast Texas! It is a little wet outside today, but the weather is treating us well while we are conducting our fall herbicide application on nuisance and exotic species.
I’m sure we will have some alligator and other wildlife pictures as the week goes on!
