Intestate. Testate. One letter apart, but two very different outcomes for your family. ☕

That assumption trips up more Florida families than almost anything else.

A basic will is a good start, but on its own, it doesn't do everything people think it does:

🔹 It doesn't avoid probate. Assets titled solely in your name still go through Florida probate court, even with a will.

🔹 It doesn't cover incapacity. A will only takes effect at death, and without a Durable Power of Attorney, Healthcare Surrogate, and Living Will, a court may need to appoint a guardian if something happens to you first.

🔹 It doesn't override your beneficiary designations. Retirement accounts, life insurance, and jointly titled property pass to whoever's named on the account or deed, no matter what your will says.

Why does probate sometimes take longer than you'd expect? ⚖️

Five days to board up windows. Stock up on water. Fill the car with gas. Decide whether you're riding it out or getting out.
