Sometimes, when folks come to see me for wills and trusts, it's too late. Literally too late to accomplish certain goals, like protecting assets if nursing home care is needed. So I'm sowing the idea now that it really is something to plan for, especially when you don't think you need it. Waaaaay before you'd ever think you'd need it. Here's a few fun but serious facts about trusts: 1.) Using a trust for estate planning can avoid the cost and time of probating an estate; and 2.) The probate process is public and your will and and complete list of assets filed in that process are public record. Using a trust for estate planning keeps all that a private matter and saves money down the road. You asked for it, and I listened. Not everyone can afford attorney drafted estate planning documents and some resort to online forms downloaded and poorly drafted. This is no longer necessary. I'd like to help you.

Each month I will be accepting a limited number of clients for a less expensive, streamlined process of drafting simple wills and powers of attorney. In order make this process cost effective, it's a little different in that the only in-person meeting is for the signing, the hours of signings available will be roughly from 5pm to 7pm about once a week, you must bring your own witnesses for the signing and it's only appropriate for simple wills and healthcare and financial powers of attorney. But it does allow you put your mind at ease that your wishes will be known!

WMUR reported recently that over 50% of adults don't have a will. What happens when you die without a will? Your "stuff" gets distributed according to the laws of "intestate succession", in other words: the generic way the state prescribes. This may not be what you want. It also does not address guardians for minor children or provisions for your fur family/pets. And there are notary and witness formalities that must be abided by for a will to be valid. Even more importantly, you may need a trust to provide the protection you desire. I have been helping folks with their estate planning for almost 17 years. I'd love to help you too! Did you know that there are several different kinds of trusts? Trusts can be used so that your loved ones don't have to deal with probate court, which makes things super easy for them after you pass. Trusts can be used to protect your assets from Medicaid liens so that you have assets left to give to your loved ones. Trusts are also a VERY helpful tool to keep assets separate, and go where you want them to go, when there are children of the current marriage, and also children from your prior marriage and your spouse's prior marriage. NH Supreme Court says it's OK for license plate to say "COPSLIE"! And... when stopped for a traffic violation, the driver can be asked for license and registration, but not to see the driver's tongue!
