Founded in 1997, Patrick’s PALS is dedicated to supporting the FRAXA Research Foundation, which was established in 1994. Steven D. Irwin advises clients on complex business, securities, regulatory, and employment matters, particularly in the financial services sector. Having served as Commissioner of Banking and Securities under two Governors and as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Investor Protection Trust, Steve brings firsthand regulatory perspective to his work with advisory and brokerage clients. He regularly interacts with government bodies, counsels high-level management on matters involving allegations of fraudulent conduct, and advises on employment relationship and labor compliance issues. Steve brings a regulator’s perspective to helping clients manage regulatory inquiries and address compliance concerns.

Brett J. Warren has 15 years of experience in securities law, spanning both the public and private sectors. As a former securities regulator, Brett helps clients navigate federal and state securities laws, including matters involving Registered Investment Adviser formation, registration, operations, ongoing compliance, IAR disputes, customer complaints, and terminations. He also represents startups and mature companies in capital markets matters, helping them seek investment capital while managing risk. Throughout the rest of 2026, we will be highlighting our offices across the country. We’re kicking off our Office Spotlight series in Los Angeles with a look at a day in the life in our LA office.

Located in Westwood Village, our LA office is just a short walk from the UCLA campus and the historic Fox Theater. The office is home to 60 team members and has a strong presence from the firm’s Healthcare, Labor & Employment, Litigation, Corporate, Intellectual Property, Trusts & Estates, and Immigration Practice Groups. In the LA office, collaboration is part of the everyday rhythm, with team members working across practices to support clients and one another.

One tradition the LA office especially enjoys is heading to the Westwood Village Farmers Market on Thursdays for Cambodian food, baked potatoes, or pupusas.

Last week, Pittsburgh Litigation Partner Heather S. Heidelbaugh presented during the Pennsylvania Bar Institute's CLE webcast “Defamation, Libel & Slander 2026.”

Heather provided an overview of defamation claims, including damages and key defenses, Pennsylvania’s new anti-SLAPP statute, and important considerations when taking on a client and bringing a claim. Her presentation was followed by a moderated discussion.

Heather presented alongside Michael Berry with Ballard Spahr and Judge Lawrence F. Stengel (Ret.) with Saxton & Stump. The session was attended by more than 90 Pennsylvania attorneys.

Healthcare Chair Harry J. Nelson recently appeared on a Bloomberg Law podcast episode to discuss new FDA guidance indicating that certain unauthorized e-cigarette and oral ni****ne pouch products may remain on store shelves while their applications are pending agency review.

He described the guidance as a notable shift from the FDA’s prior position, under which merely having an application on file was not enough to create a safe harbor for these products.
