Congratulations to Jason Schiffman for accepting his nomination for Pittsburgh’s 2024 Visionaries of the Year!
Jason joins the fight to end blood cancer in honor of Officer Mark Alan Smilek, who was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia in 2017 and unfortunately succumbed to this terrible disease on January 7, 2024.
Officer Smilek's life story is one of unwavering courage and profound love, not only for his duty but also for his family and community. Born in Beaver, PA, Officer Smilek’s commitment to safeguarding others led him from local law enforcement to the distinguished Pentagon Force Protection Agency. His bravery shone brightly on 9/11, a testament to his dedication to his country. Officer Smilek’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him and in the community at large, a testament to the impact of his generous soul and the way he touched lives.
Upon hearing Officer Smilek’s story, Jason felt compelled to take action, and looks forward to participating in this campaign alongside his team, Service with a Smilek, to make a meaningful impact on behalf of those who are battling this disease.
