On Sunday, November 22nd several members of MPBG participated in the Girls on the Run 5k event at Capitol Plaza. Girls on the Run is a non-profit positive youth development program whose mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. The innovative program combines training for a 5k (3.1 miles) running event with interactive lessons that encourage positive emotional, social, mental and physical development. Over the past 10 years, Girls on the Run serving Maricopa and Pinal Counties has served more than 7,000 girls in 3rd – 8th grades and more than 1 million girls worldwide! We are proud to be serving our community. Marian Mackey (Paralegal) and her partner Karen Day, Elizabeth Luna (Legal Assistant) and her daughter Mya Luna ran this event. Mary Ellen Winters (Office Administrator) worked the booth for the Greater Phoenix Valley of the Sun Association of Legal Administrators. The weather was picture perfect and everyone enjoyed the day.

Judge Bethany Hicks retired from the Maricopa County Superior Court after more than twenty years of service presiding over civil, criminal, juvenile and family court cases. Please welcome our newest Paralegal, Marian Mackey, to our Litigation Department. Marian comes to us from Houston, Texas where she worked as Paralegal Group leader for Osha Liang, LLP. She has also worked as a Senior Litigation Paralegal for Greenberg, Traurig, LLP and as a Business Development Analyst for Pearce Beverage Company. Marian has a BS in Computer Information Systems and will be instrumental in our conversion to Pro Law later this year. We are delighted she is here!

On May 28, 2015, Maricopa County Superior Court Presiding Judge Norman C. Davis appointed Shareholder Paula Williams as a Commissioner. Paula participated in a rigorous selection process along with approximately 60 other candidates. Paula will begin her service in the criminal department of the Maricopa County Superior Court as a Commissioner in initial appearance court in mid-July, 2015. All of us at May, Potenza, Baran & Gillespie, P.C. wish Paula well in her new endeavor.

Recently, the Valley of the Sun Association of Legal Administrators participated in a contest to produce a 60 second music video. Mary Ellen Winters, our Office Administrator is part of this group, and she participated in the production. The video won first place at the National Conference in Nashville, Tennessee last week. Mary Ellen is the one throwing the "lifeline" to those others who need help. Enjoy this vignette.
