A little preparation can make the process much smoother.

Before your appointment:

- Have the COMPLETE document with you.

- Bring acceptable identification.

- Review the document before your appointment.

- Know whether the document needs to be signed in front of the notary.

- Make sure required blank spaces have been addressed appropriately.

- Confirm whether additional signers need to be present.

And remember:

Your notary can perform the notarization, but cannot provide legal advice or tell you what information belongs in your document.

"Should I sign this before you get there?"

PLEASE ASK FIRST.

Different notarial acts have different requirements.

For example, a jurat involves the signer making an oath or affirmation and signing in the notary's presence.

An acknowledgment works differently: the signer acknowledges that they signed the document willingly for its stated purpose.

Not sure what your document requires?

That's okay.

Look for the notarial certificate included with the document or contact the organization/person who provided the document.

As a notary, I can explain the different notarial acts, but I cannot choose one for you when your document doesn't specify which one you need.

Getting down low, looking at something from a completely different angle, and noticing the details that would normally be passed right by can completely change an image.
