Beautiful Murasame katana in folded steel forged hand black blade with real hamon.
Bent steel 1095 and 1060. Folded 13 times to reach about 8192 leaves, hardened differently by selective clay quenching. There is a beautiful Hada (grain on steel, result of bent steel) on the blade. The hardness of the Mune is about 43 and the Ha (blade edge) is d? about 60 Rockwell HRC. The back of the blade is iori-mune, the cutting edge is without Niku. (Very cutting blade). The dark color of the blade is the color of the steel that is reached by a treatment of the blade.

Tsuba (Hand Guard) Elaborately crafted copper tsuba adorned with detailed lion-dog (shishi) and floral engravings. Each motif is rendered in relief, representing protection, strength, and noble grace.
Equipment Full set of solid copper fittings, including the fuchi, kashira, and koiguchi, finished in antique gold. Each component is finely sculpted with matching motifs for visual harmony and durability.
Handle (Tsuka) Wooden core wrapped in vibrant red ito over black ray skin (samegawa). The texture provides excellent grip and aesthetic contrast, enhanced by gold menuki beneath the wrap.

This is an authentic Japanese Samurai Katana, featuring a Shinto period blade mounted in WWII Japanese Imperial Army fittings, with a silver family mon (crest) on the tsuka, reflecting the pride and heritage of the officer who carried it.

The blade measures 24 inches in shinogi-zukuri style, showcasing an incredibly active choji midare hamon, enhanced with tobiyaki spots, fine nie and nioi activity, and a gracefully turned kaeri boshi. The blade’s mokume hada is well-forged and visible through its nearly full sashikomi polish. The ubu nakago remains unsigned, with two mekugi-ana (one plugged), a typical characteristic of ancestral blades remounted for military service.

The Imperial Army mounts are of superior craftsmanship, with minimal wear on the tsuka-ito wrap and the original painted scabbard remaining intact and free of dents. The presence of the silver mon on the tsuka signifies this was a cherished family heirloom, customized for field use by an officer who spared no expense.

This katana represents the intersection of Japan’s samurai tradition and its WWII military history, making it a unique and valuable collector's piece for those who appreciate authentic, battle-carried swords with personal historical provenance.
