This is an authentic Japanese Samurai Katana, featuring a Shinto period blade mounted in WWII Japanese Imperial Army fittings, with a silver family mon (crest) on the tsuka, reflecting the pride and heritage of the officer who carried it.
The blade measures 24 inches in shinogi-zukuri style, showcasing an incredibly active choji midare hamon, enhanced with tobiyaki spots, fine nie and nioi activity, and a gracefully turned kaeri boshi. The bladeβs mokume hada is well-forged and visible through its nearly full sashikomi polish. The ubu nakago remains unsigned, with two mekugi-ana (one plugged), a typical characteristic of ancestral blades remounted for military service.
The Imperial Army mounts are of superior craftsmanship, with minimal wear on the tsuka-ito wrap and the original painted scabbard remaining intact and free of dents. The presence of the silver mon on the tsuka signifies this was a cherished family heirloom, customized for field use by an officer who spared no expense.
This katana represents the intersection of Japanβs samurai tradition and its WWII military history, making it a unique and valuable collector's piece for those who appreciate authentic, battle-carried swords with personal historical provenance.
