El-Shabazz, simply Tariq as he is known throughout Philadelphia, began his legal career as an assistant district attorney in Philadelphia where he quickly rose through the ranks of the office to try the most complex cases including violent crimes and s*x offenses. Very early in his career it was obvious to judges, prosecutors and defense attorneys alike that he was a special talent. After leaving

the District Attorney's Office, Tariq took the private bar by storm continuing to establish himself as one of the finest litigators in America. Tariq tried cases up and down the eastern seaboard while becoming a go to lawyer in Philadelphia. In 2016, Tariq left private practice to return to the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office as the Deputy Chief for Investigations and assuming the position of First Assistant upon the retirement of George Mosee. Tariq realized that we face complex obstacles in the reform of our justice system and the most important work needs done from inside the institutions that are tasked with serving ALL the people. Tariq ran for the Democtratic nomination in Philadelphia District attorneys Office to address the needs of all Philadelphians by bringing balance to the system and ensuring that everyone feels safe and knows that justice will be served. Even though his run was unsuccessful his desire to be a champion of justice has not waivered. It is with that unwavering desire along side of his unparalleled legal mind and litigation expertise that Tariq has returned to private practice.

By the permission, mercy, and favor of Allah, another milestone has been reached. Today our daughter has earned her doctorate, and our hearts are overflowing with gratitude to the One who made it possible.

Ya Allah, all praise belongs to You. You are the One who grants knowledge, opens doors, strengthens hearts, and brings dreams into reality.

Watching our daughter reach this moment is more than an academic achievement — it is a reminder of Your kindness, Your protection, and Your promise that hard work, sincerity, sacrifice, and tawakkul are never unseen by You.

Ya Allah, bless her knowledge and make it beneficial. Allow her education to be a means of service, integrity, impact, and goodness in this dunya and the akhirah. Keep her humble in success, firm upon the deen, protected from arrogance, and surrounded by sincerity and barakah.

May every late night, every sacrifice, every prayer, every tear, and every obstacle be written among her good deeds.

We ask Allah to continue elevating our children in faith, character, wisdom, and excellence. May He allow them to be leaders who benefit humanity while remaining devoted servants of Him.

viia BREAKING: The New York State Legislature passed critical legislation that will fully repeal 50-a, which up until now has allowed law enforcement to shield police misconduct records from the public. Now the bill goes to Governor Cuomo for a signature.
These disciplinary records will now be publicly disclosed, increasing systemic accountability through transparency and taking New York one step forward to addressing police violence in our communities.
