As a Practice Associate Professor at Penn Carey Law School and Founding Director of the ARC Justice Clinic, McClellan leads impactful civil rights litigation and prepares the next generation of advocates to challenge systemic inequities. From her work at the NAACP Legal Defense Fund to leading high-profile cases on police accountability and affirmative action, her advocacy continues to shape the national fight for justice.

Named for a trailblazing attorney and champion for Black lawyers, the J. Austin Norris Award recognizes excellence, leadership, and service to the Black legal community.

This year, we proudly honor Ginene Lewis, Chief of Staff to the General Counsel and Director of Legal Strategy & Operations at Corning. Throughout her career, Ginene has credited her mentors—her “personal board of directors”—for supporting her growth and inspiring her commitment to lift as she climbs. A dedicated mentor and co-founder of Youth Action, she continues to use her influence to create opportunity and empower the next generation of Black lawyers.

✨ The Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia proudly honors the Avenging the Ancestors Coalition (ATAC) with the Cecil B. Moore Award for its unwavering commitment to truth, justice, and community.

Since 2002, ATAC has championed historical accountability through advocacy and education—most notably leading the campaign that established the President’s House Slavery Memorial, honoring the nine Africans enslaved by George Washington.

The Barristers’ Association is proud to present the Honorable A. Leon Higginbotham, Jr. Award to Judge Deborah Watson-Stokes — a trailblazer whose career reflects excellence, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to justice.

Before taking the bench, Judge Watson-Stokes served more than 30 years with the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, including 18 years in the Homicide Unit, where she tried 150+ homicide jury trials and became known as the leading female homicide trial attorney in Pennsylvania. Her career has been defined not only by courtroom excellence, but also by mentorship, leadership, and service to the legal community.
