🏙️ Philadelphia workers: large employers, including the City itself, are aggressively using Temporary Notices of Workers’ Compensation Payable. Do you know what that means for your claim?

Mike Dryden explains how this impacts your claim and important filing deadlines for injured workers' claims. Understand before it’s too late.

What we’re seeing:

• Large Philadelphia employers routinely filing TNCPs after workplace injuries instead of formally accepting claims

• Workers receiving medical care and wage benefits during the 90-day window, then facing sudden denials when employers file a Notice Stopping Temporary Compensation

• Employers using the TNCP process the way it was never intended: not to investigate in good faith, but to pay out benefits temporarily and then avoid long-term liability

• Workers left scrambling to file a Claim Petition without realizing the clock was running from day one

If you have been injured on the job in Philadelphia, you need to understand how this process works before that 90-day window closes. Once it does, the rules change significantly.

Stay informed. Stay protected.

We owe law enforcement workers a debt we can never repay, and on Peace Officers Memorial Day, we honor the sacrifices of so many brave people who have protected us.

Police officers put their lives on the line to ensure we can live with safety and peace of mind, and they are a source of strength and stability in times of urgent need. When the peacekeepers of our communities lose their lives or become disabled in the line of duty, it is our responsibility to serve as a source of strength for law enforcement and their families, through proper protections in times of tragedy.

These dedicated workers do some of the most important work for our society, and we are proud to stand with them. We hold their memory in our hearts, and we are forever grateful for all they have done to keep us safe.

⚠️ Did your employer rescind a Temporary Notice of Compensation Payable after a work injury? Here’s what your employer may not want you to know.

👉 Employers can only rescind a TNCP if there is a real dispute about whether a work injury occurred.

👉 They cannot keep you out of work, pay your medical bills, and then claim your injury never happened.

👉 If this happened to you, you may have strong grounds to fight the denial.

Mike Dryden, Head of the Workers' Compensation Department at Willig, Williams & Davidson, explains how employers can and cannot legally use a TNCP to deny your claim.

Don’t let them rewrite the story. If you’ve received a Notice Stopping Temporary Compensation Payable, talk to an attorney right away.

WWD attorneys Deb Willig, Tom Gribbin, and Ty Parks were honored to represent USW Local 4-575, leading negotiations for a new successor collective bargaining agreement with Merck in Rahway, New Jersey.

After 12 days at the table, the Union secured the largest wage increases for its members in decades, along with meaningful improvements to working hours - real gains that will have a lasting impact.

This outcome is a testament to the strength, unity, and resolve of the membership. USW 4-575 President Ron Coleman and his team should be incredibly proud of what they achieved through their leadership and commitment.

Injured at work in Pennsylvania? Your employer may be using a legal tactic to deny your claim, even after paying your medical bills.

Many workers receive a Temporary Notice of Compensation Payable (TNCP) after a job injury. It can feel like protection. But large employers, including the City of Philadelphia, have been aggressively using these notices as a tool to later deny valid claims.

Mike Dryden, Head of the Workers’ Compensation Department at Willig, Williams & Davidson, breaks down exactly how this tactic works and what you need to know to protect yourself.

Here is what every injured Pennsylvania worker needs to understand:

👉 Under Pennsylvania law, employers have just 21 days to accept or deny a claim. A TNCP extends that window to 90 days, without admitting any liability.

👉 If your employer files a Notice Stopping Temporary Compensation, they are legally declaring your injury never happened, even if they already paid your medical bills and wages.

👉 If the employer does NOT file a denial within 90 days, the TNCP automatically converts to a full Notice of Compensation Payable, and your claim is accepted. Knowing this deadline is critical.

👉 Missing work and receiving medical treatment does NOT prevent a denial. Benefit payments under a TNCP are made without any admission of fault.

👉 If you’ve been injured on the job and received one of these notices, don’t assume you’re protected.

Teachers are responsible for guiding the people most precious to us, our children, and preparing them for a successful future. Our society depends on the essential work they do in nurturing the talent, curiosity, and skills of the next generation.

People charged with such weighty responsibility deserve to be paid well and protected from exploitative working conditions. During Teacher Appreciation Week, we are reminded of the vital role educators play in our lives and the importance of ensuring they have what they need to do their job well.

Thank you, teachers! We salute you and stand with you. 📚🍎
