6 ABC: Former Death Row Prisoner Daniel Gwynn Exonerated

I am proud of the justice-seeking work done by our Law Division Federal Litigation Unit, led by ADA Katherine Ernst and ADA David Napiorski. The exoneration of Daniel Gwynn frees a man who is likely innocent.

Sadly, it also exemplifies an era of inexact and, at times corrupt, policing and prosecution that has broken trust with our communities to this day.

The public expects the right consequences for those who commit violent crimes, and wants the innocent to be free. When law enforcement wrongly arrests, prosecutes, and imprisons the innocent, the guilty go free and are emboldened to do more harm.

ABC 6: Conviction in Temple Student’s Murder

The District Attorney’s Office is grateful for the conviction of Latif Williams for this outrageous crime, which not only deeply impacted Mr. Collington’s family and loved ones but affected the entire Temple University community.

I again extend my deepest condolences for the terrible loss of a promising young man. Thank you to Homicide/Non-Fatal Shootings Unit Supervisor ADA Joanne Pescatore, who prosecuted this case.

This conviction is also the work product of the experienced professionals of the PPD, who include Homicide Detectives Joe Murray, Orlando Ortiz, Chris Sweeney, Jim Sloan, andVince Parker; as well as numerous Crime Scene Unit personnel, DAO victim/witness coordinators, and support staff.

The appropriate use of civil forfeiture means taking money away from drug dealers and other threats to the community. But we don't stop there.

This administration believes that in order to prevent drug addiction and violence, we must reinvest in the communities hardest hit by these public health and safety issues. That's why we are strongly encouraging small, local community-based groups to apply for these funds. Let's work together to make our city safer and healthier for everyone.

FOX 29: Third Degree Murder Conviction in West Philly Crash Homicides

The facts of this horrific case warranted the charges of Third Degree Murder, which can be rare in cases like this. I commend Assistant District Attorney Sean Perez for his excellent work in prosecuting this case.

This conviction should send a message that the criminally reckless behavior exhibited by Mr. Ross will not be tolerated. I also commend the bystanders who rushed to try and help the victims in this tragedy.

6 ABC: Two Suspects Charged in 2022 Kensington Mass Shooting That Injured Nine People

Thanks to the excellent investigatory work of the Philadelphia Police Department and Gun Violence Task Force, these two defendants will be held accountable for the violence and havoc they brought to the Kensington community. This case, quite simply, is a perfect example of what happens when you bring collaboration and modern forensic techniques to bear on violent crime cases.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. fought hard for every vote to count.

Some people in Harrisburg need a reminder. Have a wonderful MLK weekend.

The attorneys and other professionals Philadelphia District Attorney's Office send warm congratulations to Deputy Police Commissioner Pedro Rosario on his recent appointment to Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel's executive team.

The DAO salutes Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle L. Parker and Philadelphia Police Commissioner Bethel for their vision and leadership on this historic selection of the first Latino Deputy Police Commissioner in the history of the Philadelphia Police Department.

Over the last several months the DAO has met weekly with City Council, CM Lozada, PPD and stakeholders discussing modern enforcement and modern prevention strategies for the Kensington community.

We look forward to building on our communication and collaboration with our partners in PPD to prioritize public safety, support for crime victims and criminal justice reform in Philadelphia.

Don’t be a fool this New Year’s Eve: Ring in 2024 with joy, not tragedy. Please do not engage in celebratory gun fire. Celebrate responsibly.

The DAO is excited to work with Mayor-Elect Cherelle Parker and her appointed leadership in her new administration.

We look forward to supporting next week's inauguration, meeting regularly with Mayor-Elect Parker and her team to prioritize public safety through modern enforcement and modern crime prevention, including strong support for victims and survivors impacted by violence.

We will all accomplish more by working together.

Very important article about the disenfranchisement of Philadelphia voters.

Very important article about the disenfranchisement of Philadelphia voters.

The law allows the state to appoint a special prosecutor for crimes that occur near SEPTA property. It also disempowers the Black and brown people who make up the bulk of the city’s population.

As Philly continues to combat gun violence while also supporting survivors, there is some good news: Two consecutive years of a decrease in the homicide rate. Let’s all keep working together to keep this headed in the right direction.

Sky-high violent-crime rates of recent years have suddenly—mercifully—plummeted.

CBS Philly: Search for 12 Homicide Fugitives

There are families across the city this holiday season who are mourning the loss of loved ones to these violent crimes.

While my office’s partnerships with the Philadelphia Police Department and Sheriff Rochelle Bilal’s office are hugely important, the public plays a very important role in helping law enforcement bring those who commit these crimes to justice too.

We simply cannot do this alone. If you know the whereabouts of any of these suspects, please contact law enforcement immediately.
