April 21 - A San Diego Family sues Roblox and Meta, alleging that predators groomed her on Roblox, moved her to Instagram, and coerced her into making explicit videos. According to the lawsuit, two adult predators posed as children and took advantage of the access the world’s largest gaming and social media platforms gave them, to groom, manipulate and abuse the then 11-year-old Jane Doe victim.
The adults found Jane on a Roblox ‘experience’ and began chatting with her. The adults, posing as teens, gained Jane’s trust and later convinced her to open an Instagram account.
Once on Instagram, the adults groomed the young San Diego girl, later offering her money to participate in sexually explicit video chats with them.
In August 2025, Jane’s mother discovered the Instagram videos and immediately contacted the police. According to the lawsuit, the FBI’s cybercrime division is now
“These consequences were the foreseeable result of Defendants Roblox and Meta’s deliberate business decisions, to prioritize profits over child safety.”, states Attorneys Melissa Hague and Melissa Ephron who are representing victims in the Roblox Litigation “The physical and psychological impact on [Jane] has been devastating—depression, anxiety, PTSD, self-harm, emotional trauma, deep suspicion of others, difficulty in school, isolation and requiring ongoing counseling and treatment,”
According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, reports of child sexual exploitation have skyrocketed in recent years, jumping from 675 reports before the pandemic to more than 13,300 in 2023.
