Houston County's ConfirmOK Program Offers Daily Wellness Checks

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — Houston County residents have access to a free service that provides an extra layer of reassurance for seniors and other individuals who may be at risk.

The Houston County 911 Center's ConfirmOK program places an automated phone call each day to enrolled participants to make sure they are safe. If the call goes unanswered, emergency personnel are notified so they can check on the individual in person.

According to Lieutenant Amber Clayton, the program has proven to be valuable and often helps people during medical emergencies.

“The program itself is a success probably weekly. We have situations where it'll alert, we'll get out there and they're either suffering from some type of medical condition, or they've fallen and just simply could not get up off the floor,” Clayton said.

Although the program has helped many residents, only 26 people are currently enrolled. Clayton hopes more people will take advantage of the service as awareness grows.

“It’s an educational thing. It’s getting it out there in the public, but it’s also kind of a fear thing. So we’ve really tried to work hard at getting out there in the senior community and educating them that we’re here for everything,” she said.

For families with aging loved ones, the program can provide additional peace of mind. One local resident, Russell, said he already checks on his mother regularly with help from relatives and neighbors, but believes a daily automated check-in would be another valuable safeguard. He said he is already making plans to enroll her.

Enrollment is simple. A Houston County 911 staff member completes the application over the phone by collecting basic information, including the participant's name, address, contact information, emergency contacts, medical conditions, and the preferred time to receive the daily call.

🎗️Positive changes to ABLE accounts for individual with disabilities: 🎗️

Beginning in 2026, the ABLE Age Adjustment Act brings meaningful improvements to ABLE accounts that expand access and strengthen financial flexibility for individuals with disabilities.

The age of disability onset has increased from 26 to 46, opening eligibility to many adults who were previously excluded. In addition, the annual contribution limit has increased to $20,000, allowing greater opportunity to save.

These changes make it easier for individuals with disabilities to save for qualified expenses on a tax advantaged basis, without jeopardizing essential benefits such as Medicaid.
