Daniel Hanuska, an attorney in Hanauer Law's Wheaton office, recently argued before the Illinois Appellate Court on behalf of a woman whose home (worth more than $150,000.00) had been ordered forfeited after a lengthy, civil-asset-forfeiture trial. Dan successfully secured a reversal of the trial court's ruling on the basis that the trial court's judgment for the State of Illinois violated the excessive-fines provision under the Eighth Amendment to the United States Constitution.
