Alec Murphy and I were privileged to attend the reception last night where Murphy & Dunn was awarded the 2025 Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year from the Peoria County Bar Association. It has been our honor these past nine years to continue to serve and give back to veterans and members of the armed forces for all they have done for us and to honor Nick Murphy’s legacy. Thank you again to all of the law firm attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants and administrative staff that had made it possible for us to assist over 300 clients and complete almost 1.2 million dollars worth of free legal services since 2016.

I want to give a huge shout out to Attorneys Jeffrey Dunn, Alec Murphy, Ben Mills and all of the paralegals, legal assistants and support staff at Murphy & Dunn, P.C. I had my left knee replaced on August 5, 2024 and have been on medical leave the past three weeks. The other attorneys and support staff have all stepped up running the company and helping on my cases until I get back to work soon. I am so proud of Jeff, Alec, Ben and all of them. My goal from Day 1 in starting our company was to build a family company that could be passed on from generation to generation and create a legacy. After seeing how well everything has gone these past three weeks, I am more convinced than ever that the future continues to be bright for www.murphy-dunn.net and we will be helping people get through their divorce and other family law problems for years to come providing the best possible legal work we can do. Our goal has always been to be problem solvers, not just litigators, and we continue to win cases and help get people through their legal issues with that model in mind. Thank you everyone. I am so proud of what we have built and the next generation behind me.

Murphy & Dunn is growing again. We need a paralegal that would like to make a difference in Clients and their children’s lives. It can be a full time position with benefits working Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4 pm (37.5 hours per week) or a long part time position without benefits working 9 am to 3 pm (27.5 hours per week) for a paralegal that might need to only work during school hours. We are very pleased to announce that Attorney Benjamin L. Mills has become a partner at Murphy & Dunn, P.C. Ben has done a wonderful job at our law firm and is not only a great attorney, but a wonderful human being and person and we are very excited to have him as our newest partner. I don’t post much on Facebook these days. And for good reason. I am simply happy and feel very blessed and I do not need to announce that to the world every day.

Back in 2016, I needed Facebook and the emotional support and feedback I was receiving from everyone after Nick was killed. You all literally helped me survive. And for that I will always be eternally grateful. Along the way I also felt like I was helping others get through their own tough times as well. It was a win-win.

But today I am healthy and happy and I don’t have anything earth shattering to report except just that. That I feel so blessed to have found a wonderful new partner in life with Kathy Filarski and we are getting married in less than four months, all of my children and her children are doing fabulous overall and living their best lives, that we are doing great at work and continuing to help others get through their family law problems as much as humanly possible, and that we just passed the one million dollar mark in free pro bono legal services for veterans and military men and women since 2016 in honor of Nick.

So all I can say is thank you to God. Without Him, I would not have survived and thrived these past 8 years and neither would our families. We are all very blessed.

So on this beautiful Sunday in central Illinois or wherever you are, don’t forget to take a deep breath and remember how fortunate we all are in this difficult place we all call life. You can’t change yesterday and tomorrow is not yet here, so go make today your best day. It truly is a gift.
