For our legal nurse consultant Marissa, helping others is personal.

Just five months ago, Marissa welcomed her daughter after a difficult pregnancy that sent her to the ER multiple times and ultimately ended in an emergency C-section. Thankfully, her baby was okay. Part of that outcome came from knowing what questions to ask, understanding the medical system, and advocating for herself every step of the way.

But not every mother and baby have the same outcome. Sometimes something important is missed or overlooked, and families are left searching for answers.

That experience deepened Marissa’s commitment to helping others navigate some of the hardest moments of their lives. If you are left wondering whether more could have been done, Marissa wants to help you get answers.

A dog bite can turn serious quickly. Knowing what to do next matters.

First, get medical treatment right away. Dog bites can lead to serious infections, permanent scarring, and lasting injuries if they are not properly treated.

Next, call the police and animal control. Having documentation of what happened can be important later, especially if questions come up about the dog or the incident.

Then, contact an attorney. Evidence can disappear quickly. An attorney can help gather information such as the dog’s history, whether there have been prior bites or aggressive behavior, and nearby Ring camera or surveillance footage that may have captured the attack.

The steps you take in the hours and days after a dog bite can make a difference.

You are trying to heal. Insurance is already building a file.

After an accident, the process can move quickly. Calls from adjusters. Questions about coverage. Medical bills. Paperwork. Decisions that feel important when you are still trying to process what happened.

The reality is insurance companies are businesses, and their interests are not always aligned with yours.

An attorney can help you understand the process, protect your rights, and navigate the details so you can focus on healing.

Movies and TV have convinced a lot of people that questioning a witness is all dramatic objections, raised voices, and surprise “gotcha” moments.

In reality, depositions are often much more boring than people expect and that is usually a good thing.

A deposition is a fact-finding mission. We want to understand the witness’s theory of what happened, what policies or procedures were in place, and what decisions were made along the way. The goal is to listen, learn, and ask the right questions.

Because when you ask the right questions, you often get exactly what you need without the theatrics.

Medical records can tell you what happened.

But if you are building an institutional negligence claim, they rarely tell you why.

As the case develops, the right discovery can start to fill in the gaps.

Who was staffing the floor? Were there enough nurses? What training did the providers have? What policies were in place? What did the hospital do to make sure the people caring for patients were qualified?

Patient assignment logs, staffing records, and census reports can help uncover whether what happened was an isolated mistake or part of a larger systems failure.

In medical malpractice cases, the details matter. Sometimes the strongest evidence is found in the documents behind the chart.

Georgia law requires an affidavit from a qualified medical expert explaining how the standard of care was violated. And when a case goes to trial, experts help juries understand what happened, what should have happened, and why it matters.

Medicine can be complicated. Our job is to help make it understandable. Sometimes that means bringing in the right experts to explain the details clearly and thoroughly.

Nothing better than that “I can’t believe they said that on the record” feeling.

After a wreck, we hear this all the time: do I really need an attorney?

You can handle a claim on your own, but here’s why you should get help from an attorney.

Studies by the Insurance Research Council show people who hire an attorney often recover 3 to 3.5x more.

When Brooks Law Partners steps in, we take it off your plate and gather every detail early. Our attorneys understand how insurance companies evaluate these cases, so our team can build a case that fully tells your story.

If you’ve been injured in a wreck, we’re here to help.

Community matters to us at Brooks Law Partners. We were proud to sponsor the 6th Annual Race for FATE 5K, 2K & Kids Fun Run supporting programs at Fred A. Toomer Elementary.

This event brings families, educators, students, and local supporters together for something bigger than a race. It is an investment in children, education, and the future of our community.

We were especially proud to see one of our incredible attorneys, Sarah Adle, serve as the MC for the event. Sarah helped form the Fred Armon Toomer Elementary Educational Foundation in 2016 and currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors. Her dedication to this school and its students is something we deeply admire.

Supporting the communities we serve has always been important to our firm. We are grateful to be part of events like this that bring people together and create meaningful opportunities for local students.
