Scams don’t discriminate, and older adults are increasingly being targeted by sophisticated fraud schemes.

So, how can you protect an aging parent or loved one from scams?

Start by knowing the warning signs. 🚩

Scammers often create a sense of urgency, demand secrecy, or request unusual forms of payment such as gift cards, wire transfers, cryptocurrency, or cash.

Common scams targeting older adults include:

📱 Tech-support scams
💰 Investment and cryptocurrency scams
❤️ Romance scams
🏛️ Government impersonation scams
👵 Grandparent and family-emergency scams
🏆 Prize and sweepstakes scams

🔐 It’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month!

Throughout October, Robert M. Goldberg & Associates will be spending the next four weeks talking about something that affects every family: protecting the people, information, and assets that matter most.

We’re kicking things off with an important reminder:

🚨 Scams don’t discriminate.

Scammers are professionals. They know how to create urgency, impersonate people you trust, and make you feel like you have to act right now.

A phone call from someone claiming to be your bank.
A message saying your grandchild is in trouble.
A pop-up telling you your computer has been hacked.
A government agency demanding immediate payment.

The goal is often the same: make you panic before you have time to think.

So remember:

STOP. SLOW DOWN. VERIFY.

And if you or someone you love has already been scammed, please remember this: it is not your fault. Talking about it and asking for help is one of the best things you can do.

Over the next four weeks, we’ll be sharing practical information about scams, cybersecurity, protecting your digital life, and what to do when something goes wrong.

Our team recently had the opportunity to travel to Buffalo, NY, for a conference hosted by Million Dollar Sales and the wonderful Julie. We’re always looking for opportunities to learn, grow, and bring new ideas back to the families and clients we serve.

And, of course, no trip to Buffalo would be complete without doing a little exploring! From trying the original Buffalo Wing at Anchor Bar to taking in the beauty of Niagara Falls, we made sure to enjoy a little time outside the conference room, too.

✅ FACT: A will is an important part of estate planning, but it may not be the whole plan.

It’s Not Too Late

Your parent is already in a nursing home. Now what?

Maybe the family thought they had more time.

Maybe the health crisis came suddenly.

Maybe nobody realized how quickly long-term care could drain a lifetime of savings.
