🚨 2026 NEW YORK CHILD SUPPORT UPDATE 🚨
New York has updated key child support numbers — and it could impact what you pay or receive.
Here’s what you need to know 👇
⚖️ WHAT CHANGED:
• The income cap increased to $193,000 (up from $183,000)
• More income is now subject to the child support formula
• Higher earners may see increased support obligations
⚖️ WHAT HAS NOT CHANGED:
• The child support percentages remain the same:
– 17% (1 child)
– 25% (2 children)
– 29% (3 children)
– 31% (4 children)
– 35%+ (5+ children) (Rupp Pfalzgraf)
• Courts still have discretion on income above the cap
• Add-ons (childcare, health insurance, etc.) still apply
⚖️ WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU:
• You may be paying too much or too little under an outdated order
• Pending cases may be calculated under the new cap
• High-income cases are especially impacted
💡 YOUR OPTIONS:
• Seek a modification (15% income change or 3 years)
• Renegotiate agreements before final judgment
• Challenge how income is calculated (especially self-employment / bonuses)
• Strategically address income above the cap
