🚨 2026 NEW YORK CHILD SUPPORT UPDATE 🚨

New York has updated key child support numbers — and it could impact what you pay or receive.

Here’s what you need to know 👇

⚖️ WHAT CHANGED:
• The income cap increased to $193,000 (up from $183,000)
• More income is now subject to the child support formula
• Higher earners may see increased support obligations

⚖️ WHAT HAS NOT CHANGED:
• The child support percentages remain the same:
– 17% (1 child)
– 25% (2 children)
– 29% (3 children)
– 31% (4 children)
– 35%+ (5+ children) (Rupp Pfalzgraf)
• Courts still have discretion on income above the cap
• Add-ons (childcare, health insurance, etc.) still apply

⚖️ WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU:
• You may be paying too much or too little under an outdated order
• Pending cases may be calculated under the new cap
• High-income cases are especially impacted

💡 YOUR OPTIONS:
• Seek a modification (15% income change or 3 years)
• Renegotiate agreements before final judgment
• Challenge how income is calculated (especially self-employment / bonuses)
• Strategically address income above the cap

📞 If you have a child support order — or a case pending — now is the time to review it. CALL US TODAY FOR A FREE CONSULTATION

🚗 Important Update for New York Drivers: Changes to The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles has updated how traffic violation points are assessed, and these changes took effect February 16, 2026. Understanding the new system is crucial because points on your driver’s license can lead to higher insurance rates, Driver Responsibility Assessment fees, and even license suspension or revocation if you accumulate too many within the designated timeframe.

📌 Here’s what’s changed:

🔹 Extended Look-Back Period:
Points are now counted over a 24-month period (up from 18 months) when determining whether a driver is a “persistent violator.”

🔹 Increased Points for Dangerous Violations:
Some violations now carry higher point values, especially serious offenses:
• Alcohol- or drug-related convictions — 11 points
• Aggravated unlicensed operation — 11 points
• Speeding in a construction zone — 8 points
• Passing a stopped school bus — 8 points
• Speed contests and races — 5 points

🔹 Zero Points for Equipment Violations:
Contrary to some confusion, equipment issues (like broken lights or illegal tint) do not add points under the updated guidelines.

📉 What This Means for You:
If your accumulated points hit 11 or more over 24 months, you may face license suspension or an administrative hearing with the DMV. Even fewer points can trigger additional consequences, including mandatory improvement clinics or increased insurance costs.

📘 Helpful Tip: Completing a DMV-approved Point and Insurance Reduction Program (PIRP) can subtract up to four points from your total and may qualify you for an insurance discount.

Evicting a tenant is never a landlord’s first choice, but when rent goes unpaid or lease terms are repeatedly violated, taking legal action may be unavoidable. In New York, evictions must follow strict procedures, timelines, and notice requirements. One misstep can delay the case or result in dismissal.

Landlords should never resort to self-help measures like changing locks or shutting off utilities. The proper course is filing the correct proceeding, serving valid notices, and complying with court rules at every step.

If you’re a landlord facing a non-paying or non-compliant tenant, understanding your legal options early can save time, money, and frustration. Our firm can help ensure the process is handled efficiently and lawfully.
