The Cook County Treasurer has extended the first-installment property tax payment deadline to April 1 due to delays in mailing tax bills. This change follows significant delays in the issuance of the 2025 second-installment bills.

Cook County homeowners have all been granted an extension in paying their first-installment property tax bills for 2026.

The Cook County Board of Review is reopening 24 townships for 2025 property tax appeals starting December 3 through December 12. Now is the time to file if you haven’t already.

Townships reopening include: Berwyn, Evanston, Norwood Park, River Forest, Riverside, Rogers Park, Cicero, Oak Park, Palos, and many more.

📢 Cook County homeowners who have seen significant property tax increases in recent years may now qualify for a $1,000 one-time financial assistance through the Cook County Homeowner Relief Fund.

🏠 To be eligible, applicants must:
✅ Own and occupy the home as their primary residence
✅ Have a household income at or below 100% of the Cook County Area Median Income (AMI)
• $84,000 for a household of 1
• $96,000 for a household of 2
✅ Have had a property tax bill increase of at least 30% in any of the 2021, 2022, or 2023 tax years

📢 Important Property Tax Update for Cook County Homeowners

The Second Installment 2024 Cook County property tax bills are experiencing a significant delay.

➡️ Normally due on August 1, the bills will be mailed later this year due to years-long technological issues with the County’s property tax system upgrade.
➡️ The new due date has not yet been announced, but it is expected to be sometime later in the fall.
