Sometimes the hardest part of a construction project isn't building something new. It's reimagining what's already there, and making it better.

Lightbridge Academy started as a 10,000-square-foot shell building in Hoboken.

Our job was to transform that empty space into a fully operational childcare center complete with classrooms, a new second floor, and an outdoor playground.

Building that second floor inside an existing shell required new foundations, structural footings, and a custom steel framing system, all while adapting to field conditions as the project evolved.

Add Hoboken's tight streets, limited staging space, and carefully coordinated deliveries, and every day required thoughtful planning.

Six months later, an empty shell had become a place where children could learn, play, and grow.

That's the kind of transformation we're proud being part of.

Food manufacturing doesn't leave much room for "good enough."

Every square foot has a job to do.

Andrea Foods needed more than additional space. They needed a facility that could increase production while meeting the demands of frozen food manufacturing from day one.

As Deugen's design-build team, we managed the project from permitting and approvals through construction, delivering a 35,000-square-foot expansion with new production areas, refrigerated storage, and the infrastructure needed to support long-term growth.

Facilities like this are built around precision. Refrigeration systems, temperature-controlled environments, and complex mechanical infrastructure all have to work together because when one system falls behind, operations do too.

Some buildings are meant to be quiet. A music school isn't one of them. 🎸

When School of Rock came to Deugen, the goal wasn't just to build classrooms. It was to create rehearsal spaces where every student could play at full volume without interrupting the lesson happening next door.

That meant specialized wall assemblies, sound insulation, and carefully coordinated audio infrastructure designed to keep every studio isolated while supporting the technology inside it.

The challenge didn't stop there. The entire 2,100-square-foot fit-out had to be completed in less than two months so the school could open before the academic year began.

Meeting that deadline took more than a schedule. It took nights, weekends, holidays, and a team committed to getting it done without compromising quality.

When construction disappears into the background and students can focus on making music, that's a job well done. 🎶

Some projects test construction expertise. Others test resilience.

Mosaic on Main, a 63-unit, 75,000 SF multifamily development for Reynolds Asset Management, was one of those projects. After taking over from a previous contractor, we spent months moving the project forward and reached 70% completion by early 2020.

Then disaster struck. An arson fire across the street spread to the building and destroyed it. We worked alongside ownership through demolition, insurance, and re-permitting, then restarted construction in June 2020.

Just days after receiving the TCO in late 2021, Hurricane Ida flooded the newly completed lobby and elevator shafts. We rebuilt the damaged areas and pushed forward.

Despite a major fire and a historic flood, the project was successfully completed and later reportedly set a Somerset County sales-price record per unit when sold.

We can't control every challenge, but we can control how we respond to them.
