Today I brought home a 13-year-old Australian Shepherd —
a dog who was passed over by more than a hundred families simply because of his age.
For years, he sat quietly in the shelter,
watching younger dogs get chosen one by one,
while he waited patiently —
hoping that one day, someone would choose him.
And today, finally,
he has a warm, peaceful home
where his tired body can truly rest.
This afternoon, when I picked him up,
he pressed his strong yet incredibly gentle head into my chest
and looked at me with deep, grateful eyes —
as if to say,
“I finally found my person.”
The wisdom in his gaze,
the quiet dignity in his aging body,
and the way he completely melts into a hug —
you can feel that he knows
he’ll never have to wait for love again.
Senior Australian Shepherds deserve the world.
And I feel incredibly lucky
to give him a safe, peaceful, and love-filled final chapter of his life.
