Historic Snow in Florida! ❄️

Once it’s safe to get on the roads remember to:

Slow Down: Snow and ice can reduce traction. Driving at slower speeds gives you more time to react to changes in the road.

Increase Following Distance: Extend the space between your car and the one in front of you. Stopping takes longer on slippery roads, so aim for at least 8-10 seconds of following distance.

Use Your Brakes Gently: Sudden braking can cause your tires to lose traction. Apply brakes gently and gradually to avoid skidding.

Avoid Cruise Control: Using cruise control in snowy or icy conditions can be dangerous because it may not allow you to react quickly enough to sudden changes in traction.

Stay Smooth: Try to steer, brake, and accelerate in a smooth, controlled manner to prevent losing control.

Clear Snow and Ice: Always clear snow and ice from your vehicle, including the roof, windshield, headlights, and tail lights. This ensures better visibility and reduces the risk of snow flying off your car onto other vehicles.

Know How to Handle Skids: If your car starts to skid, steer in the direction you want to go (e.g., if the rear of your car slides left, turn left). Avoid slamming on the brakes.

Prepare for Emergencies: Keep an emergency kit in your car that includes blankets, food, water, a flashlight, a first aid kit, and a phone charger.

🚗💨 Friendly Reminder: Don't forget to check your windshield wipers!

As we head into rainy season (or just that time of year when weather can surprise us), make sure your wipers are in top condition. Visibility is key for safe driving, so give them a quick inspection—if they're streaking, squeaking, or leaving spots, it might be time for a replacement! Stay safe out there!

Take a look at this amazing historical photo of our building from 1926. It's incredible to see how much has changed over the years! 🏦📜

THE COMMERCIAL BANK, 227 Harrison Av., was constructed in 1926 by contractor J. R. Asbell. The architect was E. D. Fletcher of Tallahassee. The building is one of the few examples of Georgian/Colonial Revival-Commercial architecture in the Downtown. The materials was buff-colored brick and Indiana limestone. It has bronze front doors. The interior was decorated in imitation marble and the counter was of white marble. The rear held the Director's room. Bank president J. D. Sellars opened the establishment on June 23, 1926. Later presidents were Harry G. Fannin and M. G. Nelson. The photo was taken in 1926. Photo courtesy of NW Regional Library.
