The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has stepped in to halt an alleged mortgage debt relief scam operating under the name National Amendment Assistance (N.A.A.). The company reportedly targeted homeowners by falsely claiming they could provide mortgage relief under the CARES Act, demanding illegal upfront fees, and promising lower rates that never happened.
At South Title & Closing, your security is our top priority. Real estate and mortgage scams are unfortunately common, but you can protect yourself by remembering these key red flags:
🚩 Upfront fees: It is illegal for mortgage assistance relief companies to collect money before they deliver the results they promised.
🚩 Guarantees: Be skeptical of anyone "guaranteeing" they can lower your payments or stop a foreclosure.
🚩 Instructions to stop communicating with your lender: True professionals will never tell you to cut off contact with your actual mortgage servicer.
Always vet the companies you work with. If you ever receive a suspicious offer regarding your home or mortgage, consult with a trusted, licensed professional first. Read the full update on the FTC's website at http://bit.ly/4x81NHb
