He is credited with establishing the church and spreading Christianity throughout Ireland.
• Life and Captivity: Born into a wealthy Roman-British family, Patrick was kidnapped by Irish raiders at age 16 and spent six years in captivity, where he became a devout Christian.
• Missionary Work: After escaping, he believed he had a vision calling him to convert the Irish to Christianity. He returned to Ireland, traveling extensively, founding churches, and converting many people.
• Legacy and Symbols: He is traditionally associated with the shamrock, which he used to explain the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit).
• St. Patrick's Day: March 17th is celebrated as his feast day because it is believed to be the date of his death, not his birth. He died in Saul, Ireland, where he built his first church.
