Subject: Georgia Open Records Request & Request for Accountability — HeeHaw

Dear Chief Newsome and Cedartown Police Department:

I write regarding the shooting and death of HeeHaw, a young miniature donkey reportedly shot by a Cedartown police officer while in his pasture.

Pursuant to the Georgia Open Records Act, O.C.G.A. § 50-18-70 et seq., I respectfully request copies of all public records concerning this incident, including body-worn and dash-camera footage, incident and supplemental reports, photographs, dispatch and 911 communications, and any use-of-force report, as well as records identifying the officer who discharged the fi***rm.

Please respond within the time prescribed by O.C.G.A. § 50-18-71. If any requested record or portion thereof is withheld, please identify the specific statutory exemption relied upon and produce all reasonably segregable non-exempt portions.

I further urge a thorough and impartial investigation and appropriate disciplinary or legal action if the evidence establishes that this shooting was unjustified.

HeeHaw cannot be brought back, but accountability matters. An animal’s life should not be treated as disposable simply because the victim cannot speak for himself.

Please ensure that there is justice for HeeHaw and that an incident like this is never repeated.
