We had so much fun participating in the annual golf outing benefitting CBF Kids last summer. The Cleveland Baseball Federation helps to fund sandlot baseball programs for inner youth in Cleveland. We were truly happy to be able to support this important program with a cy pres distribution. Each week we will feature a new group that tells the story of the amazing work they do for NE Ohio as well as the State of Ohio. We had the privilege of meeting with Brandon Chrostowski of Edwins Restaurant and Institute to provide him and his incredible organization a cy pres distribution.

Edwin's gives formerly incarcerated adults a foundation in the culinary and hospitality industry while providing a support network necessary their long-term success. Their mission is three-fold: to teach a skilled and in-demand trade in the culinary arts, empower willing minds through passion for hospitality management, and prepare students for a successful transition home.

EDWINS Leadership and Restaurant was founded in 2007 with the belief that every human being, regardless of their past, has a right to a fair and equal future. In 2011, they started teaching in Grafton Correctional Institution. Shortly thereafter, they opened the restaurant on Nov. 1, 2013.

Students are not only equipped with basic culinary skills, but are also assisted with finding employment, and have the opportunity to utilize free housing, legal services, basic medical care, clothing, job coaching, literacy programs and more.

In 2016, they opened the EDWINS Second Chance Life Skills Center, a 20,000 square foot campus for living, working and recreational enrichment.

Today, between its prison program and restaurant and institute at Shaker Square, EDWINS Leadership and Restaurant Institute graduates nearly 100 students a year. After finishing the program or after release from prison, our graduates have gained employment in Cleveland’s finest restaurants.

We had the honor of distributing cy pres funds to three worthy charities last week.

First up, Hope Over He**in. This organization and their incredible team help to break the cycle of addiction before it begins through education and testimonies presented by role models and licensed professionals. And it doesn't end there. For those who already suffer from addiction, their program is an intense rehabilitation process that takes 18 to 24 months and continues to provide support to the person even after they are off of this heinous drug. With several additional steps of solid support, people can get the rehabilitation they need to get to other side with a healthy mind, a healthy body and a healthy spirit. To learn more please go to:

Sadly we were not able to attend this wonderful event for Juvenile Diabetes in person because of Covid, but D&B was very honored to receive this video thanking us for our Cy Pres distribution. This was a great treat to receive from the kids. Keep up the good work! Thanks for keeping us all educated.
