Every Floridian knows the drill this time of year. Water, batteries, generator, a plan for the storm. 🌀

But there's one plan most families never make — and it's the one that matters most: what actually happens to the people you love if something happens to YOU?

All month, we're calling it weatherproofing your family. Not your roof. Not the patio furniture. The people. 🫶

The whole team is breaking it down right here, all June — plain English, zero legalese, zero scare tactics. Just the real things that keep your family out of court and out of chaos when life takes a turn.

Because the storms we can't predict are exactly the ones worth planning for. Let's get you ready. ⛅

Everyone on the internet loves to say:
“Just do a Lady Bird Deed. Problem solved.” 👀

But here’s what people AREN’T talking about…

In Florida, Enhanced Life Estate Deeds (aka Lady Bird Deeds) are not actually codified in state statute — which means title companies can interpret them differently, and sometimes that creates major problems for families later. 😵‍💫

We’ve seen situations where:
➡️ Kids had to sign off before parents could sell their own home
➡️ A deceased beneficiary created unexpected probate issues
➡️ Siblings ended up fighting over expenses after a parent passed away
➡️ One inheritance accidentally put benefits at risk for a special needs child

And THAT is why estate planning is never just about “avoiding probate.”
It’s about making life easier for the people you love after you’re gone.

Sometimes the “simple” plan creates the most chaos later. 💭

In this video, attorney Audra Platt explains why Pittman Law Office approaches Lady Bird Deeds carefully — and why revocable trusts are often the better long-term strategy for families.

Because good estate planning isn’t trendy.
It’s personal. 💗

Memorial Day reminder 🇺🇸

The strongest thing you can leave your family isn’t money.
It’s a plan.

Because losing someone is already hard enough.
Your family should not also be dealing with probate court, frozen accounts, legal confusion, and stressful decisions while grieving.

Estate planning is one of those things people put off because “there’s still time.”

Until there isn’t.

Today we honor the people who gave everything for this country — and we remember that protecting your family is part of the legacy too.

To every veteran, service member, and military family: thank you. ❤️🤍💙

On vacation ☀️🍹

But yes… still thinking about how a “simple will” can turn into 18 months in probate court 😅

Friendly reminder from your favorite estate planning reality check:
A will does NOT avoid probate.

It just tells the court what to do… while your family waits, pays, and stresses through the whole process.

A trust is what actually keeps things private, fast, and out of court.

So enjoy your vacation… and maybe send this to someone who still thinks a will is enough 😉

The amount of people who think their spouse automatically gets everything when they die… 😵‍💫

I cannot tell you how often we hear this.

And then people find out:
→ the house has to go through probate
→ assets get tied up in court
→ kids from previous relationships legally inherit part of the estate
→ an ex is STILL listed as a beneficiary from 12 years ago

Like… yes. This actually happens.

Every day.

A lot of estate planning issues start with assumptions instead of actual planning.

And the scary part? Most families don’t find out there’s a problem until they’re already in the middle of a crisis.

The good news: most of this is fixable before it ever becomes a mess.
