ARVEST BANK WARNS CUSTOMERS ABOUT SCAM VIDEO CALLS!
HOW IT WORKS:
1. The scammers pretend to be with a bank when they text, email or call you.
2. Then, they set up a a video call through FaceTime or Zoom or Teams, etc.
3. They claim there is a serious problem with your account that you have to deal with immediately.
4. They want you to share your screen with them so they can see you log into your bank account and see your password and account numbers.
HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF:
1. REMEMBER THAT ALL SCAMS HAVE THE SAME 4 RED FLAGS:
-They contact you out of the blue (call, email, text, message on social media
-They claim something urgent has happened
-They need you to do something: call a number, click on a link, do a video calL, etc.
-They want access to your information or they want money
2. Don't talk to them... just call your bank from a number you have on a statement that you know is real or walk into the bank and talk with a person.
3. Arvest (and most banks) will NEVER ask for a video call or request that you share your screen with them.
4. Banks NEVER ask to watch you while you log into your account or make a transfer from one account to another.
5. NEVER trust your caller ID... scammers can put in any number they want, including a bank's number.
6. Pay attention to email addresses because scammers use gmail or an address that is a letter or two off the real email address.
7. NEVER share your screen with ANYONE who requests it.
8. Routinely check your accounts to see strange or unexpected transactions or money movement.
9. The more they pressure you, the more you know something is wrong and you need to slow down, think it through and talk to someone you trust.
