KTK mourns the tragic loss of Jacob Kuckelman.

Jacob Michael Kuckelman, 29, Olathe, KS passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at his home as a result of complications of diabetes.  Jacob bravely battled Type 1 diabetes since his November 2013 diagnosis.

Steven Myers's family has reached a $3.5 million settlement for his shooting death at the hands of the Undersheriff of Barber County, Kansas. This is believed to be the largest civil settlement ever for an officer-involved shooting death in the state of Kansas. More here from the Wichita Eagle:

Barber County officials have agreed to pay $3.5 million to the family of an unarmed Sun City man killed with a homemade beanbag round fired by the undersheriff at close range in 2017.

Kuckelman Torline Kirkland is representing the estate of a young woman who died by su***de while in police custody. On first glance, you might think, "Wrongful death? This was a su***de." But there's so much more to the circumstances surrounding Olivia Rennaker's passing, including a complete lack of mental health screening when she was put in jail.

Ms. Rennaker's grieving family knows she was in distress and believes her death could have been prevented, had the Barber County Sheriff's Department taken the most basic steps to screen and to monitor her while in custody.

The family of a Kansas inmate who hanged herself at a rural county jail has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit that alleges incompetence by law enforcement officials, citing video surveillance that showed her repeated su***de attempts.
