BIG NEWS for Retired Public Employees!
If you or someone you know had Social Security benefits reduced or eliminated because of the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) or Government Pension Offset (GPO) - things just changed in a BIG way!
SSA has started paying out BILLIONS in retroactive benefits after the repeal of WEP and GPO under the new Social Security Fairness Act. So far 1.1 million people have received payments with an average back pay of $6,710- and many more are still eligible!
THIS MEANS if you were previously denied benefits, you may be eligible. You could also be entitled to retroactive payments for reductions or get higher benefits going forward.
THIS IMPACTS Retired Teachers, Police Officers, FireFighters, and other public workers who had pensions from jobs where they did not pay Social Security taxes.
