Happy ! Attorney Jennifer Skerston joined Attorney Karen Donnelly and Attorney Bryon Kohut to present to the students at St. Michael Grade School in Streator today. They, along with students, acted out parts in a skit called “Wicked Witch v. Snow White” and fielded questions from the students about legal concepts and the practice of law.

(For inquiring minds - Snow White was found “not guilty” of violating the alleged copyright of “fairest of them all.”)

Attorney Skerston is active in the LaSalle County Bar Association and the and enjoys opportunities like to inspire future generations of lawyers.

Big News in Illinois Estate Law – Effective August 15, 2025

Illinois has raised the Small Estate Affidavit limit from $100,000 to $150,000 for the first time in many years. Even better, motor vehicles no longer count toward that limit.

This means many families can now avoid probate court, saving time, money, and stress when transferring a loved one’s estate.

These new rules only apply if a person passes away on or after August 15, 2025.

This change to the law was drafted and lobbied by Illinois State Bar Association's Trusts & Estates Section Council which Attorney Jennifer Skerston has been a member of for more than ten years.
