Marriage based immigration cases require more than simply submitting forms.

USCIS carefully reviews the evidence to determine whether a relationship is genuine and entered into in good faith. During this process, officers may look at documents, interview responses, living arrangements, financial records, and other details that help establish the legitimacy of the marriage.

Even honest couples can face additional scrutiny if important evidence is missing or if there are inconsistencies in the information provided. That is why preparation and documentation are essential throughout the process.

Swipe to learn some of the common factors USCIS may review when evaluating a marriage based case and how strong supporting evidence can help strengthen your petition.

Can small mistakes deny your U.S. citizenship application? 🇺🇸

The answer is yes. Even small mistakes can seriously impact your naturalization process and, in some cases, lead to delays or even denial. USCIS carefully reviews every application for accuracy, honesty, and consistency.

In this video, attorney Evelyn Pabon explains some of the most common issues reviewed during a citizenship interview, including:

• Failing to disclose arrests or interactions with law enforcement
• Providing incomplete or inconsistent information on your application
• Problems proving physical presence in the United States
• Extended trips outside the country that affect eligibility
• Lack of preparation for the English and civics test

USCIS requires full transparency. Even if a case was dismissed or charges were never filed, failing to disclose that information can raise serious concerns and negatively affect your application.

Honesty and preparation are essential at every stage of the immigration process. With the right guidance, you can avoid common mistakes and move forward with confidence.

We are excited to celebrate our Employee of the Month!

Originally from Cuba, Rey made the move to the United States in 2011, spending several years in Missouri before eventually planting roots here in Florida. With over five years of experience as an immigration legal assistant, Rey brings not only expertise but also genuine care and connection to every interaction. He truly enjoys getting to know people and learning from their stories, which shines through in his work every day.

Rey is a self-proclaimed horror movie fan and is always up for a good scare. When he’s not watching films, you can often find him browsing record stores or antique shops, embracing his “old soul” spirit. His music taste is just as diverse—ranging from Edith Piaf to Bad Bunny, and from Nina Simone to Lady Gaga.

Rey also has a green thumb and a passion for collecting tropical plants and cacti, always on the hunt for the next unique addition. A coffee lover and café explorer, he enjoys discovering new spots just as much as he loves relaxing at the beach—his true happy place.

At home, he is a proud dog parent to a Siberian Husky, adding even more energy and joy to his life. When the opportunity arises, he loves to travel, with New York holding a special place as his favorite destination.

We are grateful for the dedication, warmth, and personality Rey brings to our team. Congratulations on being our Employee of the Month!

If you are in an abusive marriage, ending that relationship does not mean giving up on your immigration future.

Many people worry that divorcing an abusive U.S. citizen spouse will end their chances of getting legal status. That is not true. Immigration law does not expect you to remain in an abusive relationship to move forward.

Depending on your situation, options may still exist. This can include filing a VAWA petition if your green card application is still pending, or requesting removal of conditions if you have a conditional two year green card and are divorcing an abusive spouse.

Every case is different, and the right legal strategy matters. Getting guidance before taking the next step can help protect both your safety and your future.

This Memorial Day, we remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. We also recognize the immigrants who have long stood among our nation’s warriors, making up about 5% of active-duty enlisted personnel and about 4.5% of the veteran population.

At Symphorien-Saavedra Law, we honor their sacrifice and extend our gratitude to the families who preserve their memory.

Today, we remember. Today, we honor.
