Veterans Legal Support Network

Veterans Legal Support Network VLSN is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting veterans and their families navigate through the legal system.

We work throughout Nebraska and the surrounding areas to assist those who have taken up arms in defense of this country. We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing the unmet legal support to veterans in need. We work throughout Nebraska to assist those who have taken up arms in defense of this country. Our primary focus is helping veterans who fall through the cracks of other veteran s

ervice providers. Using the very words in our name, we provide criminal and civil legal support, up to and including representation, to veterans and their families as they navigate the legal system. The support we provide is currently unmet in our area due to several factors. The first is a lack of financial incentive for the type of cases we take on in this niche practice area. The second is a lack of coordination among the courts, the service providers and administrative bodies who deal with veterans. The third is the lack of understanding of military and veteran issues in the general public.

We've lost a really wonderful advocate for servicemembers and their families. Love and Support to Joel as well as Kay's children and grandchildren. She lived an honest and thorough life.

Mary Kathleen “Kay” Schneider fought for years to discover what happened to her first husband, Michael Bosiljevac, after his plane was shot down in Vietnam.

So proud of this Marine. Bob Boyd is a treasure. Thanks Steve Liewer at the OWH for telling Bob's story.

Here's some news that has been reported on in the good news category. DADT era discharges are being reviewed and have resulted in upgrades for Vets who were wrongly kicked out of the military. What it doesn't say however is how many discharges we still need to look at where commands threw in an "assault" or some other UCMJ violation, of which there are many to choose from, and therefore didn't discharge solely on basis of homosexuality. The facts though more likely show the other charges were a subterfuge for throwing Vets out and now require a deeper dive into the cases, which can include deals at Special Courts Martial. Keep on fighting.

Check out this article. Apparently, Vets need good legal help for free, who knew?? Hopefully Creighton and Nebraska Schools of Law will take note and then take some action. How bout it Jays/Skers?

A new report revealing more than $84 million in underpayments to qualified veterans is a sign the Department of Veterans Affairs needs to improve its training for employees. That's the conclusion of a congressional committee looking into the massive error.

We’ll it’s that time of the year, Fundraising time! 💰👍🏼. We’ve been able to get by on our generous donations of years past during covid but now we’re at the “need to solicit again”time. We’ve had a great year of involvement with 2 discharge upgrades, numerous other packages worked on pro bono by Creighton Military Law Society members and renewed engagement with the veteran mod in Douglas County jail. We’d be humbled by any gifts you would deem us worthy of and this month ://midlandscommunity.org is matching your gifts. We hope you have a safe and wonderful Holiday Season!❄️🎄

We get more stories as we near Veterans Day but we're still appreciative. Steve Liewer is a great friend and Vets advocate himself at the OWH. So proud of our VTC here in Douglas County.
