Starting the week off with a win for a Roth Weinstein client. We had won her case for cancellation of removal in immigration court, and after years of waiting she received her resident card!

Back in early September immigration court changed their policy to detain all immigrants rather than give them the opportunity for a bond hearing. One of our clients was detained indefinitely. The Roth Weinstein law firm just won a lawsuit in federal court mandating our client’s release!

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents took Armando Garcia Picazo into custody in August. Authorities wouldn't release him even though an immigration judge approved his bond. He sued to be released. This week, a federal judge ruled in his favor.

USCIS's decision to end automatic extension for employment authorization is another way to inflict cruelty upon the immigrant population. All most of our clients want to do is work hard and provide for their families. When their work authorization is coming to an end, they can apply to renew it, but USCIS often takes so long to renew that there is a gap in work authorization. The automatic extension helped alleviate that gap.

AILA President Jeff Joseph and Executive Director Ben Johnson condemned the Trump Administration's announced ending of the automatic work permit extensions which had provided a failsafe for vetted workers stuck in months-long delays, allowing them to continue contributing to our economy.

Temporary Protected Status is there to help people fleeing a country that is experiencing dangerous or unsafe conditions. This administration has essentially said a street gang has taken over Venezuela and bombed boats leaving the country, but on the other hand says the country is safe enough that people fleeing there no longer need TPS. It doesn't make sense.

The Trump administration is trying to revoke a Biden-era policy that extended protections to thousands of Venezuelans.

If you have an upcoming USCIS interview or immigration court hearing don’t assume it’s canceled, it is most likely still happening even in a government shutdown!
