PSA for anyone utilizing the VINE service (for notifications regarding incarcerated persons):

"As of September 8, 2021, the Nebraska Commission on Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice will no longer be participating in the VINE service. As a result, you will not receive notifications from VINE concerning any offenders for which you registered.

After September 8, 2021, you may visit the following website to check offender status and to register for notifications: https://nevcap.nebraska.gov."

I'm pleased to announce my "adoption" of the city blocks containing the Douglas County Courthouse, as well as my office in the Keeline Building, through the Adopt-A-Spot program! Picked up my pincers, gloves, and stylish neon vest today; looking forward to my first cleanup effort as soon as this heat wave breaks 🌿

The Nebraska judicial branch has announced that due to short notice regarding the new federal holiday, all district and county courts, as well as probation offices, will be open tomorrow (Juneteenth - employees will be granted a floating holiday instead). Bottom line: don't skip any scheduled matters tomorrow under the erroneous belief that the courthouse/offices will be closed.

Unicameral 2021 update: Among other changes, revisions to the Nebraska Landlord-Tenant Act allow domestic violence victims (and non-offending household members) related eviction protections, as well as release from their lease without paying penalties. (LB 320, slip law attached.)

Happy Holidays! (I will be back in the office on Monday, December 28th.)

If you have a sibling (biological or adoptive) in foster care, you may have the right to participate as a legal party in the child's juvenile court case in order to request placement and/or visitation. (Actions on behalf of minor siblings can be brought by an adult guardian acting in their interests.) Most grandparents have similar rights with regard to a grandchild in foster care. Contact me if you would like to schedule a consultation: (402) 332-4546 or [email protected].
