Proud of our own Breanna Deuel! 👏⚖️

As the Vice Chair of the Workers’ Compensation Section for the Washington State Association for Justice, Breanna spent today attending the Workers’ Compensation CLE seminar that she helped organize alongside other workers’ compensation attorneys from across Washington State.

Today’s seminar brought attorneys together to discuss important updates in workers’ compensation law, share knowledge, and continue strengthening advocacy for injured workers throughout our state.

We’re proud to be part of a community that is committed to learning, collaboration, and fighting for injured workers every day.

🚨 SCAM ALERT – PLEASE READ & SHARE 🚨

We’ve been notified of scammers targeting injured workers—pretending to be from Washington State Department of Labor & Industries or the Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals—and asking for money to move a claim forward or receive benefits.

⚠️ This is NOT how the system works.
L&I and the BIIA will never ask you to pay upfront fees for your workers’ compensation claim.

If you receive a suspicious call, text, email, or message:
❌ Do NOT send money
❌ Do NOT share personal information
✔️ Verify before taking action
✔️ Report the scam to the WA Attorney General’s Office

If you’re unsure whether something is legitimate, reach out to us directly—we’re here to protect you and your claim.

Unfortunately, the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries Claims and Account Center (CAC) is currently experiencing an outage and has been unavailable throughout the morning. We understand that the Department is aware of the issue; however, this disruption is impacting our ability to access injured worker claim files.

We appreciate your patience as the Department works to resolve the situation. We are hopeful that access will be restored soon so we can continue assisting injured workers across Washington State.

Ever wondered how Compelled Medical Exams (CMEs) really impact workers’ compensation claims?

Breanna recently wrote an article breaking down where we are since SHB 1068—what’s working, what isn’t, and what practitioners are seeing in real cases.

The article was published in Trial News, and now the full piece is available on our website blog for anyone to read.

📣 ACTION NEEDED TODAY — Protect Injured Workers in Washington!
We need your help TODAY to oppose SB 5927 — a bill that would drastically reduce cost-of-living increases for injured workers by capping COLA at 3%

Right now, injured workers in Washington receive annual COLA adjustments that help benefits keep pace with real costs like housing, food, and healthcare. This year’s COLA was around 6.8% — but SB 5927 would lock future increases at 3% max, regardless of how inflation actually impacts everyday life.

Why this matters:
➡️ Workers hurt on the job already face life-changing challenges — reduced earnings, ongoing medical costs, and uncertainty about the future.
➡️ Limiting COLA at 3% will erode the real value of benefits over time, leaving vulnerable workers worse off financially.
➡️ This cap disproportionately hurts those on long-term disability and pension benefits who can’t earn income due to their injuries.

Take 30 seconds to sign in “CON” to SB 5927 and make your voice part of the legislative record here: https://app.leg.wa.gov/csi/Testifier/Add?chamber=Senate&mId=33772&aId=168896&caId=27610&tId=3

Hearing on this bill is Tuesday morning, so please sign in and make your voice heard by Monday night! Let’s stand together for fairness and financial stability for injured Washington workers. 💪
