Celebrating a big win this week. For the last five plus years my client and I have been battling the State of Oklahoma on 20 bogus kidnapping counts. My client was a bounty hunter. He was returning people who had violated their rules and conditions of bond, with arrest warrants issued by the District Court. His license was expired but he was unaware of the lapse. The State felt it was appropriate to bring the multiple counts of kidnapping against my client.
This week we were prepared, for the third time, to face a jury. Given the facts I was confident any reasonable jury would see the complete injustice.
This week, after the long battle the State finally did the right thing and dismissed the bogus kidnapping charges against my client. He is now free to resume his life without years of prison and an incredible injustice hanging over his head. I’m thankful that a reasonable prosecutor finally decided to do the right thing.
Lawyering is hard. But, wins like this a hard fought. When the state abuses its power, they must be held accountable. I’m thankful Justice finally prevailed.
Remember, simply because the powerful government accuses someone, it’s doesn’t mean they’re right and a good advocate will never back down from justice.
