Using others private photographs as a means for revenge, extortion, or a way to obtain money is the most despicable act of cruelty, actioned only by the most pathetic individuals.
It is absolutely a crime - but more than that it is the most pitiful, cowardly form of bullying. In this case, it LED to death. In this case, it led to SU***DE, and no one is to blame except the attacker.
It is so important to me that others understand their rights.
A 16-year-old Kentucky boy takes his life after being the victim in an AI sextortion scam.
Eli Heacock tragically took his own life on February 28th in Glasgow, KY. Eli's twin sister discovered him in his room suffering from a self inflicted gunshot wound. Eli was rushed to a nearby hospital where he sadly passed away from his injuries.
The family struggled to understand why their happy-go-lucky son had taken such drastic measures after seemingly showing no signs of depression. That's when an FBI agent went through Eli's phone and informed the family Eli had been victim of a sextortion scheme.
The most shocking part of the story is that the family shared that the images used to extort the young man were AI generated. The offender created the images with AI technology and sent them to Eli. They then threatened to release the images unless Eli sent them $ 3,000. They also insinuated that his family would be harmed.
Heartbreakingly, Eli's family found texts where Eli had sent a small amount of money to which the offender replied, "This is not enough".
The family wants to warn everyone to be aware of what your children are doing online. They stated their whole lives are forever changed over $3,000. His mother said she checked his phone regularly and this still happened.
The investigation into Eli's death is ongoing and involves both federal and local detectives. As of now there have been no arrests made.
