There are many reasons why a person would seek a name change in the State of Michigan.

Michigan has both a common law procedure for a name change and a statutory procedure for a name change. You have to live in the county where you petition for not less than one year. You have to identify whether you have a criminal record. You cannot have a fraudulent purpose for changing your name. And a common law name change has to be in the best interests of the individual.

Recently, I was successful in obtaining a common law name change. I knew the law. I presented the appropriate facts. And the court granted my petition after a hearing. Successful result for a very deserving client.
