The 2026 Dream Warriors Youth Leadership Conference, presented by Transformational Victories, recently took place at The Bread House in Lansing. This recurring event empowers the participants – young men ages 12 to 18 – with mentorship and leadership skills. Takura was invited to speak yet again. This year, his remarks centered on the importance of making wise decisions. As expected, Takura used demonstrative aids and encouraged active participation by the young men. We look forward to seeing how he inspires the crowd next year!

Takura and Marisa presented at the Great Lakes Legal Conference on Mackinac Island and gave the annual Criminal Law Case Update. They spoke about cases ranging from the United States Supreme Court to the Michigan Court of Appeals, keeping participants engaged and informed in a fast-paced presentation. Funny enough, Takura and Marisa were on the same wavelength and matched their outfits, which wasn’t even planned!

Takura recently served as the host for the State Bar of Michigan’s Criminal Law Section Spring Conference. Takura did an amazing job planning the conference and selecting presentation topics and speakers on a wide array of topics. Well done, Takura!

Mary and Takura recently presented at the State Bar of Michigan’s Criminal Law Conference. Their presentation was about handling expert witness testimony from challenging the expert to direct examination and cross-examination. The presentation was informative and humorous with one attendee even saying Mary was as funny as Joan Rivers!

This is what NOT GUILTY looks like! Mary, Takura, and Lizzy recently heard not guilty from a wonderful Macomb County jury in an assault with a dangerous weapon case. Our client can now move on with his life without this serious felony hanging over his head. Well done, C&N!

Three years ago this month, Jeff Titus was exonerated after being wrongfully convicted and spending over 21 years in prison. C&N was proud to be part of the exoneration team for Jeff! Jeff is a reminder that we must all fight against wrongful convictions and free those who are wrongfully imprisoned.

In a jury trial, closing arguments are critically important because they serve as the final, persuasive takeaway that summarizes evidence, restates the theory of the case, and leaves a lasting impression with the jurors. Takura was one of the faculty members for the Michigan Indigent Defense Commission’s most recent training on closing arguments. Not surprisingly, his faculty demonstration left a lasting impression on the participants. Here’s to more two-word verdicts!

Mary recently presented to the dedicated team at the Ingham County Public Defender's Office on mastering the evidence and discovery review process. Mary recently presented to the Ingham County Bar Association’s Criminal Defense Section about preparing for trial. The presentation—Tying It Up: A Trial Binder Roundtable—provided tips and best practices to prepare for trial litigation. Attendees also shared their tips, as well, which resulted in a lively and helpful discussion. Way to go, Mary!
