Congratulations to The Honorable Thomas P. Thompson, on his appointment to the Judicial Ethics Advisory Committee.
Judge Thompson, of Marion County, will replace Judge David Green of Walton County upon his retirement.

MCBA members, Marion County lawyers and judges, and other legal professionals: Save the date! April 5, 2024 is the Fifth Circuit's 2024 Professionalism Conference. Registration is open.

The 2024 conference will focus on the “First Principles of Professionalism”. Judges from the Fifth and Eleventh Circuit, the Fourth District Court of Appeals, the Florida Bar President, and a Former Justice of the Florida Supreme Court will speak on topics designed to help legal professionals navigate professionalism issues and the impact of artificial intelligence on the legal profession.

CLE credits are available and have been approved: General 5.0 hours, Professionalism 3.0 hours, and Technology 1.5 hours.

The Honorable Nushin Sayfie, Chief Judge of the Eleventh Circuit will be one of the speakers at the 2024 Professionalism Conference.
Judge Sayfie will touch on the topic of- Professionalism and Uncivil Behavior.
The 2024 Professionalism Conference will be held April 5, 2024.

If you are an attorney who lives or practices law in Marion County, you are eligible to join the Marion County Bar Association. Discounted memberships are available for government/non-profit attorneys and for attorneys who have been practicing law for less than five (5) years. Honorary memberships are available to judges and judicial officers.

We have monthly meetings at the Marion County Courthouse, where we host guest speakers. We host a holiday party each December. In May, we host a Law Day Luncheon. Throughout the year, we provide regular email updates to you about topics of interest to the Marion County legal community.

Attached to this post is the membership form for the remainder of the 2023-2024 dues year.

On Tuesday, December 12th, the Marion County Bar Association hosted its annual holiday party at the Reilly Arts Center. This event gives our members and their guests the opportunity to socialize with one another and enjoy good food and drinks.

The annual holiday party is one of the many perks of joining the Marion County Bar Association. If you're interested in joining, please email us at [email protected] to request a membership form. Membership is open to all attorneys who live or practice law in Marion County. We also offer honorary memberships to all judicial officers (judges, magistrates, hearing officers, and senior judges).

At our October 2023 meeting, we were proud to host Craig Curry, the Chair of the Marion County Board of County Commissioners. Chairman Curry talked to us about the challenges facing Marion County and how he and his fellow commissioners are working hard every day to face those challenges to make sure Marion County remains a great place to live and work. He even brought along Rubbish the Raccoon, the mascot for Marion County's Anti-Litter Campaign. Bar President Tim McCourt and Vice President Rob Davis were even lucky enough to get their pictures taken with Rubbish after the meeting!

At our September 2023 meeting, we were honored to host Roger Handberg, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Florida. Mr. Handberg provided valuable insight to our membership about the impactful work done by federal prosecutors across the district, including in the Ocala office.
