David E. Harris, the first Black pilot hired at a major U.S. airline in 1964, passed away at 89 in Marietta, Georgia.
American Airlines CEO Robert Isom praised Harris for paving the way for other Black pilots and pledged to continue offering aviation opportunities in his honor.
Despite facing discrimination early in his career, Harris's legacy includes inspiring countless aviators and co-founding the Organization of Black Airline Pilots.
