We, at Armada Law Corp, are thrilled to announce and celebrate a significant milestone in our journey — the appointment of James Anthony as our newest Partner Emeritus. James has been an integral part of our California story, shaping the landscape of cannabis law and advocacy with his unparalleled expertise.

A Legacy in Cannabis Law and Advocacy: In 2006, James embarked on a groundbreaking venture by establishing his private law practice, marking the inception of the first-ever California law firm dedicated to civil and land-use matters related to cannabis. His unique combination of experience as the Oakland Deputy City Attorney and fervent commitment to drug-policy activism positioned James as a pioneer in navigating the complexities of the cannabis industry.

From serving on the Board of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition to crafting numerous successful license applications, James has left an indelible mark on the industry. His influence is aptly captured in the words of Harborside founder and industry luminary Steve DeAngelo, who hails James as a “brilliant strategist and steadfast advocate, without whom Harborside might never have been licensed,” in his book, “The Cannabis Manifesto.”

A Multifaceted Visionary: Beyond his legal prowess, James has actively contributed to the industry’s growth. He has served on the Board of Directors for CCIA – California Cannabis Industry Association, imparted his wisdom as a longstanding faculty member at Oaksterdam University, and shared his unique perspective as a practitioner of zen koan meditation since 1980, occasionally teaching at the Pacific Zen Institute.

A Personal Touch: James Anthony’s life took a transformative turn for the better in 2000 with the birth of his daughter. This personal milestone underscores the depth of his commitment not only to the cannabis cause but also to a vision of a better, more enlightened future.
