What should you do if you are in a car crash?

• Never admit that the crash was your fault or apologize. Do not apologize - it's as bad as admitting fault and can be misinterpreted.

• Never say you are OK or that you are not injured. It is well documented that many types of injuries are not immediately apparent at the time of a crash.

• Get medical attention immediately after the crash and follow up with a physician within the next two days after the crash. Studies have documented that the following types of injuries may first become apparent several days after a crash:

○ Headaches;
○ Neck and Shoulder pain;
○ Mid and Low Back pain;
○ Abdominal pain and swelling;
○ Arm and Hand Numbness;
○ Changes in Emotions and Physical Functions;
○ Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome.

• Request Medical Assistance regardless if you feel injured or not. Oftentimes, injuries are not apparent when your adrenaline is running.

• Take photographs if there is something worth saving. Don't take photographs if there are no visible damages.

• Don’t discuss the crash on social media.

• Don’t talk to or give a statement to any insurance company or investigator before speaking with your lawyer.

• Don’t allow your vehicle to be scrapped even if it is “totalled”, without documenting the damages.

• Write down anything that the other driver said to you.

• call 911.
