Okay, I have ADHD and am constantly battling it as I decorate my home. But I legit always tell my real estate clients to make a home work for THEM, so I’m trying to take my own advice.

The problem is that I really do love pretty interiors. So I am trying a new thing—make my house work with my ADHD, not against it…but don’t lose the personality.

I started with my entryway. I needed somewhere to put shoes the SECOND I walk in the door, because if the system requires too many steps, I simply will not participate.

Is the inside beautifully organized? Absolutely not. Does it keep a pile of shoes from living by my front door? Yes.

Love the details on this home that my clients just closed on 20 min from Toledo, Ohio.

This weekend on a trip to Traverse City, we toured the former Traverse City State Hospital, including parts of the property that aren’t currently being used.

I could have spent hours looking at the architecture. Brick tunnels, arched doorways, old diamond-paned windows, layers of plaster peeling away and revealing even more brick underneath.

I don’t know what it says about me, but I love the rawness and honesty of a building in this condition. Nothing is hidden or polished over. You can feel the history in your bones.

Sometimes changing your life really does start with changing the room you’re sitting in.
Sometimes we just need to adjust. Change positions at work. Hang different art. Move the furniture around. Make the life we already have feel a little more like us.
But sometimes adjusting isn’t enough.

Sometimes we’ve outgrown the room, the house, the job, the city — or the version of ourselves we were trying to make fit there.

For me, that meant leaving New York and a corporate career I had worked really hard to build. It just stopped feeling like the life I wanted to keep building.

Coming home to Northwest Ohio and eventually finding my way into real estate gave me room to build a life that feels a lot more like mine.

And maybe that’s why I’m so interested in the relationship we have with our homes now.

Sometimes the change you need really is a move. A new city. More room. Less room. A fresh start. A home that fits the life you’re building now.

One of my favorite things about my old Brooklyn apartment was an exposed brick wall in my home office, and I think I’ve had a soft spot for it ever since.

Painted, exposed, imperfect, old, new — I just love the warmth + texture brick adds to a space. Especially in older homes, where it feels like part of the story of the house rather than something that needs to be covered up.

Maybe it’s because I spend so much time looking at homes, but I’m increasingly convinced the most interesting spaces are the ones that let some of their age + imperfections show a little.
