** Whoops, we meant August.

Jim spent decades in federal contracting, including buying equipment for the U.S. Army.

That background informed his questions about one element of the proposed police station: a floor-to-ceiling exterior wall of bulletproof glass.

He argues it's one of several cost concerns that contributed to the bond proposal's defeat in April.

New episode coming soon!

I’ll be joined by Matthew Wilk from Not SMART Wayne for a conversation about the proposed $500+ million transportation millage, regional transit, taxpayer concerns, and the legal and political questions surrounding major public funding proposals.

The goal of Unlocking the Law is not to avoid controversial issues, but to have serious conversations about them. Whether you agree or disagree with Matt or are still trying to understand the issue, this should be a worthwhile discussion.

Watch for the full episode soon.

A major congratulations to Joseph Brown, Brandon Grysko, and the entire team at Fausone & Grysko on a hard‑fought and truly significant win for Wayne County and its communities. Taking on a well‑resourced, nationwide operation in a radioactive waste dispute and prevailing is no small feat — but this result speaks for itself.

With the Court granting a permanent injunction and finding that the factors “weigh in overwhelming favor of Wayne County and the Plaintiffs,” this case stands as a landmark in protecting local communities from radioactive contamination and long‑term environmental risk.

Brandon said it best, “A state license does not mean lawful when an activity unreasonably interferes with public health, safety, and welfare.” A permit alone isn’t enough — if a project creates an unreasonable risk, communities have the right to step in and stop it.

Thank you to our clients — Belleville, Canton, Van Buren, and Romulus — for their trust, persistence, and commitment throughout this case. Their willingness to stand firm in the face of significant opposition made this outcome possible.

An impressive result, a precedent‑setting outcome, and a big win for the people these communities represent.

Jim B**a sat down with me on Unlocking the Law to share his perspective on the defeat of Livonia's $150 million bond proposal and what he thinks a better process could have looked like.

One of his biggest concerns was the proposed police station, which he says included:
- Floor-to-ceiling bulletproof glass on the exterior
- A two-story atrium facing the afternoon sun
- A fueling station behind a residential neighborhood

The police station represented nearly half of the total $150 million bond ask.

But in April, 67% of Livonia voters said no to the proposal.

Can't wait to share this with you all!

Jim B**a attended planning sessions for Livonia's $150 million bond proposal and came away with serious questions about the plan.

He wasn't alone.

A group of residents started showing up at meetings and talking to neighbors at grocery stores and coffee shops.

And in April, 67% of Livonia voters said no.

Jim joined me on Unlocking the Law to share what he saw, what he asked, and what he still wants answered.
